About Tallboy:

I started welding in 1996, while attending Alfred University in upstate New York. I learned the basics to make sculptures out of steel. The B.F.A. program at Alfred introduced me to a lot of techniques; from soldering, brazing, and welding; to casting bronze, aluminum, and iron; to blowing and casting glass. It was an amazing experience that opened my eyes to what was possible. My thesis show in May of 2000 was a culmination of all those ideas. "I want to feel small" was an environment I created that took away my height and put me in a world where everyone was equally small to the sculptures. The figures I made were between 10' and 12' tall, and their heads were a mirrored blown glass that presented the individual with a view of themselves from that height. We were all dwarfed by the sculptures, and that was a lot of fun. Take a moment to see the show by clicking on the "Sculptures" Gallery.

Welding has intrigued me ever since the first time I put two pieces of steel together.

After college, I worked in various studios around San Francisco, blowing glass and welding, but didn't finding what I was looking for. I left the bay area for Telluride, Colorado to pursue a mountain lifestyle. I returned to school in Cortez, Colorado, to learn more techniques in structural welding and to become a certified welder. In 2006, I started Tallboy Welding and began working on homes and businesses in the Telluride area. The work has been challenging yet rewarding. Please take a moment to see the variety of projects I have completed since then by clicking on the "Custom" gallery to the right.
